The movie Troy, focus’s on the battle of Troy. The war was fought for a very long time between the Trojans and Greece. The movie and the story intertwine, but also focus on different points. Troy focus’s on the big battles and how Achilles lives his life during those times, while the Odyssey focus’s on Odysseus’s returning to his homeland. A tie between the movie and the story is Odysseus was the great mind behind the idea of the Trojan Horse; the gift given to the Trojans full of enemy warriors.
Troy starts out in a war, where the kings decide rather than having a full out war with tons of casualties, they agree upon each having their two greatest fighters dual. Achilles wins the dual with an amazing stab down through the neck. After that, it continues to show how the Trojans went to war, all over some guy having a fun night and stealing a princess. I think that is an extremely bad reason to go to war, but I guess the princess was too irresistible.
To be brutally honest, if you are deciding whether to watch Troy, or to read the Odyssey to learn more about the Trojan War, I HIGHLY suggest you watch the movie. The movie is very entertaining, has good actors, amazing war scenes, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. While the Odyssey is very long, has fairly dull action, and is extremely confusing to comprehend. If you haven’t seen Troy, watch it today!
