A year or two ago I was browsing around the internet and I happened to read an article about how all readers of this certain blog could get free Overstock Club O just by emailing Patrick Byrne, the CEO of Overstock.com. This was a rare opportunity because this was not a widely read blog and Club O isn’t free.

So I sent the email and to my surprise I got a reply telling me my account now had Club O activated for one year! I was ecstatic for receiving free Club O not only because would I receive savings at Overstock, but that I had got something for free that most people pay for.

Months went by until one day I happened to read a thread on a forum exploiting a coupon error at Overstock allowing anyone to receive $37 off any order, while the coupon was only intended to discount a certain piece of furniture. I thought about trying to replicate this deal myself and having the chance at a few cheap items. After thinking about it for a bit, I thought I owed it to Overstock and Patrick Byrne for giving me free Club O. So I decided I would search through my emails and find Patrick’s personal email address and inform him of the coupon error.

After sending the email, I received a short email from Patrick saying he was “Highly grateful” and also an email from Overstock Customer Support with a $1000 account credit! I couldn’t believe my eyes! Making the right choice had paid off!

I then proceeded to purchase a 42″ Philips LCD from Overstock.com with my credit. Now every time play Video Games or watch TV I think of how helping others can be more rewarding than a few free products due to errors. Thanks Overstock!
